Why Us

Why Canton homeowners call us first for fire damage cleanup

We are usually on site within an hour

Our phone is answered by a person at every hour of every day, all year, with no service taking messages in between. Canton is a straight run for us down I-275, so an hour is the normal wait. That hour matters after a fire. Smoke keeps moving through a house long after the flames are out, and the wide open floor plans built across Canton from the 1970s onward give it little to stop it. Rooms two doors from the fire can end up holding as much of the smell as the room that burned, and starting early keeps that spread smaller.

The inspection is free and there is nothing to sign

We come to the property, go through it with you and explain what we are looking at. It costs nothing and there is no paperwork attached to it. We will tell you what we can see and what we believe is sitting behind the surfaces, and then we stop. A fire keeps most of its extent out of sight until material is opened up and cleaned down, so a firm price offered in the driveway is not a real price. We would rather be straight with you at the start than revise a number on you in week three.

Local, based in Rochester Hills, thirty years

We are based in Rochester Hills, and Canton is territory we know rather than a job on the far side of the state. Thirty years of this work, done by people who spent their careers in construction, contracting and cleaning first. On a fire that background decides what stays and what goes. Canton housing leans modern, most of it raised between the mid 1970s and the early 2000s from engineered framing and manufactured board, and knowing how those materials behave under heat is the difference between cleaning a wall and tearing it out.

We work with your insurance company directly

Where there is a claim, we document the loss and give your adjuster the paperwork they need, with a copy to you carrying every line. We stay in the conversation with your adjuster and with the other trades on the job, so information is not passing through you. If anybody tells you the claim obliges you to hire a contractor from their approved list, that is not how it works. The property is yours and so is the decision about who repairs it.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager/overseer during this. I have nothing but amazing...

Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling. Austin and Clayton were both amazing to...

Wonderful experience during such a stressful time. They came out immediately, the employees were extremely polite and respectful, and kept me updated every step of the way. They also helped guide me through the insurance claims process which seemed overwhelming at first. I would definitely recommend.

I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with this company. We had significant flooding after a plumbing repair job went wildly wrong over the weekend. Our Process

Our fire damage repair process in Canton, MI

Step 1. A person answers when you call

Call at any hour of any day and you reach a person. We ask what burned, whether the fire department has released the property back to you and what condition the house is in now. We tell you what to do until we get there. Then we roll, and an hour is the usual run out to Canton.

Step 2. We go through the property with you

Once we are on site we walk the house together. It is free and nothing gets signed for it. We show you what the fire reached, where the smoke carried and what we expect to find once material comes open. Nothing gets started until you understand the plan and agree to it.

Step 3. Board-up and making the building safe

Then we close the house. Boards over windows and doors, cover on anything cut open in the roof for ventilation, and a check that the structure is safe for anyone to work inside. A Canton house left standing open collects storm damage on top of fire damage, and that is easy to prevent on day one.

Step 4. Cleaning the structure, drying the water, and the paperwork

After that comes the building itself. Soot and residue come off the surfaces that can be saved, and material that cannot be saved is removed. Contents are a separate trade, so belongings go to a contents company and we can give you a name. There is nearly always water left in the house from putting the fire out, so we find it and dry it before it turns into a mold problem. Every piece of equipment is cleaned and decontaminated before it is brought into the house, and a crew works four to eight hours on a normal day. Invoices go out three to five business days after we finish, priced from a current Xactimate list and due in thirty days, with GreenSky financing available. On an open claim we document everything your adjuster needs and stay in touch with them.

Our restoration project took several months to complete. If you’re going through an insurance claim, be patient, as the process itself can take time. Dandre, who inspected the damage, prepared the estimate, and worked with our insurance company, was knowledgeable, professional, and very helpful throughout the process. Michelle, our project manager, was always responsive, caring, and worked hard to make sure everything was done right. The restoration work was completed by Leo and Augie, and they were outstanding. Leo replaced our tile, completed the plumbing work, repaired our closet organizer, and paid close attention to every detail. Augie did an excellent job painting. They were respectful, hardworking, and treated our home as if it were their own. Overall, although the process took time, the final result was excellent. Thank you, Dandre, Michelle, Leo, and Augie, for your professionalism, dedication, and quality work!

FAQs

Fire damage questions we hear from Canton homeowners

Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.

How soon can you get to a Canton house after a fire?

An hour is the normal run out to Canton, and a real person picks up our phone at three in the morning on a holiday. Call early if you can. Smoke odor does not stay in the air. Heat pushes it into porous material, and framing, drywall and insulation will hold on to it for a long time afterward. The sooner we begin, the less of the house ends up carrying it.

Will you handle our belongings after a Canton fire?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. Our work is the building itself. Packing out, cleaning and storing possessions is a separate trade with its own equipment and its own facilities, and we refer that work to a contents specialist. Ask us and we will point you at one. Before anything is moved out of the house, photograph it.

Can you board up a Canton property the same day?

Yes. Boarding up is normally the first thing we physically do at a Canton property. Putting a fire out leaves doors forced, windows gone and sometimes a section of roof cut open for ventilation. Michigan weather does not wait for a claim to open, so we close the building up and keep rain, snow and animals out of it. Everything that follows is simpler once the house is secure.

How does billing work on a Canton fire claim?

Your adjuster receives the documentation of the loss that the claim needs, and an identical copy comes to you. Pricing comes off a current Xactimate list, which is what most insurance companies use, so the numbers are familiar to your adjuster. Invoices are sent three to five business days after we finish and are due in thirty days. GreenSky financing can spread the cost if you need it to.

Is the fire inspection in Canton free, and is there anything to sign?

It is free and there is no form to sign for it. We walk the property with you, tell you what we can see and tell you what we think is sitting behind the surfaces. Then we stop short of a final figure. A fire keeps most of its extent hidden until material is opened up and cleaned down, and anybody handing you an exact number before that has guessed at it.
