Why Us

Why St. Clair County homeowners call us first for fire damage cleanup

We are on site in about an hour

A person answers our line at any hour of any day, every day of the year. There is no service taking a message for the morning. Across St. Clair County we are usually at the property inside about an hour of the call. Fires do not keep office hours, and neither do we.

The walkthrough is free and there is nothing to sign

We come out and go through the property with you at no cost and no obligation. We will tell you what we see while we are there. What we will not do is give you a final number at the door. On a fire loss nobody knows the full extent until surfaces are opened and cleaned, and a firm figure before that point is invented.

We deal with your adjuster directly

Your adjuster gets the documentation the claim needs, and the same file comes to you so every line is visible. We talk with your adjuster and with the other trades on the job so you are not relaying messages. And if you are told the claim requires one of the carrier's preferred vendors, that is not true. You pick who works on your property.

Local, and long experienced at this

We run out of Rochester Hills, and St. Clair County is part of our regular territory rather than an occasional trip. The founders came up through construction, contracting and cleaning before starting the business. That is what we bring to a fire. We read the framing, the sheathing and the subfloor, not only the finished surfaces.

We know the buildings out here

St. Clair County is not one place. Along the river you have older housing in Port Huron, Marine City and St. Clair, much of it built well before the war, with long open wall cavities that let smoke run between floors. Head west and it turns to farmland, township roads and houses that sit a long way apart. Out there a property may be well beyond the nearest hydrant, and many townships are covered by paid on call or volunteer departments, so a fire can burn longer before it is knocked down. A longer fire means more heat driven into the structure and more water in the building once it is out.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager/overseer during this. I have nothing but amazing...

Same story as at least one other reviewer. Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling. Austin and Clayton were both amazing to...

Wonderful experience during such a stressful time. They came out immediately, the employees were extremely polite and respectful, and kept me updated every step of the way. They also helped guide me through the insurance claims process which seemed overwhelming at first. I would definitely recommend.

I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with this company. We had significant flooding after a plumbing repair job went wildly wrong over the weekend. Ryan and Mike did an excellent job, start to finish, in remediating the damage. They were very responsive, professional, and definitely know their...

Our Process

Our fire damage repair process in St. Clair County, MI

Step 1. You call and a person answers

Call at any hour and a person picks up, not a recording. We ask what burned, whether the fire department has cleared the building, and exactly where in the county you are. Then we talk you through what to do in the meantime. Arrival across the county is usually about an hour.

Step 2. We walk it with you, free

We walk the property with you before anything starts. There is no charge and nothing to sign for it. We show you where the smoke went and which materials took the heat, and we explain what that means for the work. You will know the scope before a tool comes out.

Step 3. We secure the property

A building left open after a fire keeps losing ground to weather and to anyone who comes by. We board up and cover what is exposed and make the area safe to work in. On a rural property that also means thinking about outbuildings and anything else the fire reached. Every piece of equipment we bring inside is cleaned and decontaminated first.

Step 4. We clean the structure and deal with the water

The structure is our work. Soot is acidic, and it keeps staining porous surfaces the whole time it sits, so we do not let it sit. Heat pushes the smell into materials, and the ones that will not release it are removed. The water used to put the fire out is still in the floors and the wall cavities, and that is the second half of the job. We are not a contents company, so belongings needing cleaning go to a firm that specializes in that.

Step 5. Paperwork, and your carrier

We photograph and document from the first visit onward, so every charge is backed by a record. We price from a current Xactimate list, which is the system most carriers use. A crew works a day at a time on site, usually four to eight hours or more. Invoices go out three to five business days after the work is finished, payment is due in thirty days, and GreenSky financing is available if you need it.

Our restoration project took several months to complete. If you’re going through an insurance claim, be patient, as the process itself can take time. Dandre, who inspected the damage, prepared the estimate, and worked with our insurance company, was knowledgeable, professional, and very helpful throughout the process. Michelle, our project manager, was always responsive, caring, and worked hard to make sure everything was done right. The restoration work was completed by Leo and Augie, and they were outstanding. Leo replaced our tile, completed the plumbing work, repaired our closet organizer, and paid close attention to every detail. Augie did an excellent job painting. They were respectful, hardworking, and treated our home as if it were their own. Overall, although the process took time, the final result was excellent. Thank you, Dandre, Michelle, Leo, and Augie, for your professionalism, dedication, and quality work!

FAQs

Common questions about fire damage restoration in St. Clair County, MI

Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.

How far into St. Clair County do you go, and how fast can you get there?

We cover St. Clair County, from the river cities out to the rural townships. A person answers our line at any hour of any day, and our usual arrival time is about an hour. Where you are in the county affects the drive, and we will tell you honestly what to expect when you call. Either way we start with what you should do before we arrive.

Our St. Clair County home is a long way from a hydrant. Does that change the damage?

It often does. When a hydrant is not close, water has to be brought in, and that usually means the fire burns longer before it is under control. A longer burn puts more heat into the framing and drives the smell deeper into the material. It also tends to mean more water in the building by the time it is out. We plan for both when we walk a rural property.

Why does an older house in the St. Clair County river towns smell so far from the fire?

A lot of the older housing along the river was framed with long open wall cavities running from the basement to the roof. Smoke uses those cavities like a chimney and comes out on floors the fire never touched. Heat then pushes the smell into the plaster, the wood and the insulation rather than leaving it on the surface. Wiping down the visible soot does not solve a house built that way.

Do you clean furniture and belongings after a St. Clair County fire?

No. We restore the structure, which means the building, its framing and its surfaces. We are not a contents company, so cleaning, restoring or storing what was inside is not work we take on. If your belongings need it we will point you to a company that does contents. We would rather be clear about that on day one.

How does billing work for a St. Clair County fire claim?

With a claim open, your adjuster gets our documentation of the loss, the photos, the moisture readings and the scope notes, and a copy comes to you at the same time. Filing the claim is yours to do because the policy is yours, and after that we deal with the adjuster. Our pricing comes from a current Xactimate list, the same system most carriers work from. Invoices go out three to five business days after completion and payment is due in thirty days, with GreenSky financing available.
