Why Us

Why Ferndale homeowners call us first for fire damage cleanup

You reach a person, and a crew reaches you in about an hour

Our phone is answered by someone here at any hour of any day, every day of the year. No service takes the message. Ferndale is close to us and about an hour is the usual gap between the call and a crew at the house. Soot spreads during that gap, so we keep it as short as we can.

Nothing to pay and nothing to sign for the inspection

We come out, walk the property with you and charge nothing for it. There is no agreement attached to the visit. We also will not hand you a final price on the porch. On a fire loss the full extent stays out of sight until surfaces are opened and cleaned, and a number offered before then is only a guess.

We deal with the carrier ourselves

We send the documentation and our pricing to your insurance company, and a copy comes to you so you can see every line. We talk to your adjuster and to the other trades on the job. If you are told the carrier picks the restoration company, that is not correct. Hire us and we work for you.

Local, and long in this work

We are based in Rochester Hills, so Ferndale is a short run rather than an out of area job. Its founders worked in construction, in contracting and in cleaning before any of this began. On a fire that history counts. We look past the surface to framing, subfloor and insulation, and we tell you plainly what has to come out.

We know these streets and these houses

Ferndale was laid out between about 1910 and 1924, and most of the housing is 1920s and 1930s bungalows and craftsman homes, with Tudor revivals and cape cods filling in later. The lots are narrow, the houses sit close together, and many garages were built for alley access rather than a driveway. A compact house of that age gives smoke very little distance to travel, so a fire in one room tends to reach the whole of it.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager/overseer during this. I have nothing but amazing...

Same story as at least one other reviewer. Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling. Austin and Clayton were both amazing to...

Wonderful experience during such a stressful time. They came out immediately, the employees were extremely polite and respectful, and kept me updated every step of the way. They also helped guide me through the insurance claims process which seemed overwhelming at first. I would definitely recommend.

I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with this company. We had significant flooding after a plumbing repair job went wildly wrong over the weekend. Ryan and Mike did an excellent job, start to finish, in remediating the damage. They were very responsive, professional, and definitely know their...

Our Process

Our fire damage repair process in Ferndale, MI

Step 1. You call and get a person

Call at any hour and a person answers. First questions are what happened, whether everyone is accounted for and whether the fire service has finished. Before we hang up we tell you what to do next. Then we dispatch, and a Ferndale address is normally reached in about an hour.

Step 2. A free walk around with you

Before we do anything else we go through the property with you. No charge, and nothing for you to sign. We show you where smoke has gone, which in a small house is almost everywhere. You will know the scope of the job before it starts.

Step 3. We secure the house

Fire leaves openings, and openings let more damage in. We board them up and close the property against weather and entry. Where a garage or a rear entrance sits off an alley, that gets closed up too. We check the working areas are safe, and everything we carry in has been cleaned and decontaminated first.

Step 4. The structure gets cleaned, the water gets dealt with

What we restore is the building itself. We clean the structural surfaces smoke has reached and take out what will not come back, telling you the reason first. The fire service also put water into the house, and it is now sitting in floors and wall cavities, so we deal with it at the same time. Anything you can carry out is contents work, and a contents company deals with it. A crew works a day at a time, which is four to eight hours and often longer.

Step 5. Paperwork at the end

Nothing on our invoice is a round number we invented. The pricing comes off a current Xactimate list, the same one most carriers use. Three to five business days after we finish, the invoice goes out, and you have thirty days to pay it. If a claim is open we stay in the conversation with your adjuster and give them the documentation they ask for. GreenSky financing is available if that helps.

Our restoration project took several months to complete. If you’re going through an insurance claim, be patient, as the process itself can take time. Dandre, who inspected the damage, prepared the estimate, and worked with our insurance company, was knowledgeable, professional, and very helpful throughout the process. Michelle, our project manager, was always responsive, caring, and worked hard to make sure everything was done right. The restoration work was completed by Leo and Augie, and they were outstanding. Leo replaced our tile, completed the plumbing work, repaired our closet organizer, and paid close attention to every detail. Augie did an excellent job painting. They were respectful, hardworking, and treated our home as if it were their own. Overall, although the process took time, the final result was excellent. Thank you, Dandre, Michelle, Leo, and Augie, for your professionalism, dedication, and quality work!

FAQs

Common questions about fire damage restoration in Ferndale, MI

Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.

How fast can you get to a Ferndale house after a fire?

About an hour is normal for a Ferndale address, and our phone is answered by a person at any hour of any day. Ferndale houses are small and close together, so smoke reaches everything quickly and there is little room for it to disperse. Soot is acidic, and the damage it does becomes permanent if it is left. Call as soon as the fire service hands the property back.

Is contents cleaning part of what you do in Ferndale?

No. We restore the structure, and that is the limit of what we take on. Cleaning, packing and storing belongings is contents work and goes to a contents company. We raise it early because after a fire it is the question that matters most to people. Better to know at the start than to find out halfway through.

Will you board up a Ferndale property after a fire?

Yes. Boarding openings and securing the building is one of the first things we do. Ferndale lots are narrow and houses sit close to one another and to the alley, so an open building is exposed on several sides. Closing it up quickly stops the weather adding to the damage. Say so when you call and we will bring the materials.

Who deals with the insurance company after a Ferndale fire?

We do, once there is a claim open. The documentation goes to your carrier, photos, notes and a written scope, and you get a copy so you can check it. Your adjuster hears from us, and so does anyone else working the property, so you are not passing messages back and forth. The claim itself has to be filed by you, since it is your policy.

What does the free inspection cover at a Ferndale property?

No cost, and no paperwork. In a compact bungalow the inspection is every room, not only the one that burned, because smoke does not stay where it started and the firefighting water spreads too. We tell you what we are seeing as we go, rather than handing you a written verdict later.
