Why Us

Why Madison Heights homeowners call us first for fire damage cleanup

About an hour and we are at your door

Our phone gets answered by a person, whatever time it is and whatever day it is. Madison Heights is close by, so an hour is the normal arrival window. That speed is worth something after a fire. Soot is acidic and it stains porous material the longer it sits, so the sooner it comes off, the more of the surface survives.

The first visit is free and carries no obligation

We walk the house with you, tell you what we see, and charge nothing for it. You do not sign anything to get that visit. We stop short of a final price, though. Fire damage stays partly hidden until the surfaces are opened up and washed down, so a number quoted at the door would not hold up.

Where the documentation goes

Once the claim is open we send your insurer the documentation it needs, photos, moisture readings and scope notes. You get a copy of it at the same time. We handle the adjuster and any plumber or other trade working the property, so messages are not running through you. Some carriers push their own preferred vendors. You can turn that down, because whoever you hire is working for you.

Local, and doing this a long time

We are based in Rochester Hills, and we have been doing restoration work for a long time. Our founders came out of construction, contracting and cleaning. On a fire job that means we are reading the building, not just the room. We say plainly which materials can be cleaned and which have to come out.

We know Madison Heights housing

Madison Heights became a city in 1955, out of the east side of Royal Oak Township, and its housing is mostly what went up around then. Small brick ranches and bungalows on modest lots. The houses are compact, which means a fire in the kitchen is only a room or two away from everything else. Most of them sit over a basement too, and basement stairs act as a chimney for smoke, so the floor above takes damage from a fire that started below it.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager/overseer during this. I have nothing but amazing...

Same story as at least one other reviewer. Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling. Austin and Clayton were both amazing to...

Wonderful experience during such a stressful time. They came out immediately, the employees were extremely polite and respectful, and kept me updated every step of the way. They also helped guide me through the insurance claims process which seemed overwhelming at first. I would definitely recommend.

I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with this company. We had significant flooding after a plumbing repair job went wildly wrong over the weekend. Ryan and Mike did an excellent job, start to finish, in remediating the damage. They were very responsive, professional, and definitely know their...

Our Process

Our fire damage repair process in Madison Heights, MI

Step 1. You call and we answer

A person picks up our phone at any hour of any day. We ask where it started, whether the fire service has finished and whether the building is safe to enter. We tell you what to do until we arrive, then we send a crew. Madison Heights is close, so an hour is the usual wait.

Step 2. We walk the property with you

Before anything starts, we go through the house with you. It costs nothing and no signature is needed. We show you what the fire reached, how far the smoke traveled and what we think is behind the walls and ceilings. You will know the scope we are working to before we work to it.

Step 3. We board it up and make it safe

Openings get closed on the same visit where we can. Boards over windows and doors, cover over a roof that has been opened, and a look at whether the structure is safe for people to work in. A house left open collects rain and unwanted attention, and neither one helps your claim.

Step 4. Cleaning the structure, drying the water

Then we go to work on the building. Soot and smoke residue are cleaned off what can be saved, and what cannot be saved is taken out. Contents are not our trade, and that work goes to a contents company. Water from putting the fire out will be somewhere in the house, so we find it and dry the building before mold appears. Every machine is cleaned and decontaminated before it is set down inside, and a crew works four to eight hours on a site day.

Step 5. Paperwork and insurance

We work from a current Xactimate list, so your adjuster sees the same line items they see from everyone else. You will have the invoice within three to five business days of completion, and it is payable in thirty days. On an open claim your insurer gets the documentation it needs and we stay in that conversation. If a carrier covers less than the work came to, we will walk you through the detail line by line. GreenSky financing is available.

Our restoration project took several months to complete. If you’re going through an insurance claim, be patient, as the process itself can take time. Dandre, who inspected the damage, prepared the estimate, and worked with our insurance company, was knowledgeable, professional, and very helpful throughout the process. Michelle, our project manager, was always responsive, caring, and worked hard to make sure everything was done right. The restoration work was completed by Leo and Augie, and they were outstanding. Leo replaced our tile, completed the plumbing work, repaired our closet organizer, and paid close attention to every detail. Augie did an excellent job painting. They were respectful, hardworking, and treated our home as if it were their own. Overall, although the process took time, the final result was excellent. Thank you, Dandre, Michelle, Leo, and Augie, for your professionalism, dedication, and quality work!

FAQs

Common questions about fire damage restoration in Madison Heights, MI

Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.

How soon can you be at a Madison Heights house after a fire?

Madison Heights is close to us, so about an hour is normal, and a person answers our phone at any hour of the day or night. Call early if you can. Soot is acidic and it stains porous surfaces the longer it sits, so the first day after a fire is worth more than the third. We will tell you what to do while we are on our way.

Can you restore our belongings after a Madison Heights fire?

That is not work we take on. We restore the structure, and contents are a separate trade, so cleaning, packing out and storing your possessions is handled by a specialist. Ask and we can refer you to one. Take photographs of everything before it is moved, and keep a note of what was in each room.

Do you board up homes in Madison Heights?

Yes, and usually before anything else. A fire leaves openings, and so does the work of putting one out. Broken windows, a forced door, a hole cut in the roof. We close those so the weather and anyone passing stay outside, and so the house is safe for our crew to work in. Board-up comes first and cleaning comes after.

Who speaks to our adjuster about a Madison Heights fire?

We work the insurance side with you. Once your claim is open we send your insurer the documentation it needs, photos, moisture readings and scope notes, and you get a copy of the same paperwork. We deal with the adjuster and with any plumber, electrician or other trade on the property. You file the claim, since the policy is yours, and we take on the back and forth after that.

What does the free Madison Heights inspection include?

A walkthrough of the property with you, at no cost and with nothing to sign. We tell you where the smoke went, what the heat has done and what we think is waiting behind the surfaces. We do not hand out final prices at that visit. The real extent of a fire only shows once surfaces are opened and cleaned, and we would rather say so than guess.
