Why Us

Why Washington Township homeowners call us first for fire damage cleanup

We are on site in about an hour

Call at three in the morning on a holiday and a person will still answer. There is no answering service between you and us. Washington Township is a run we make regularly, and about an hour is the normal wait. After a fire that hour is worth having, because soot carries on damaging surfaces long after the last flame is out.

The inspection is free and there is nothing to sign

We come out, walk the property with you and charge nothing for the visit. No agreement is put in front of you before you have decided anything. What we will not do is name a final price at the door. On a fire the real extent stays out of sight until surfaces are opened up and cleaned, and a company that quotes you a total before that is guessing with your money.

We deal with your insurance company directly

We put the documentation in front of your carrier and answer what comes back, and a copy comes to you so nothing is hidden. We handle the conversations with your adjuster and with any plumber or trade on site. If someone at your insurance company tells you their preferred vendor is the only route, they are wrong. You choose, and the company you choose works for you.

Local, and we have been at this a long while

This is a business working out of Rochester Hills, so northern Macomb is home ground rather than an away job. The founders came up through construction, contracting and cleaning before starting it. That is the background you want on a fire, where the important damage sits behind the finished surface. We tell you straight which parts of the building have to come out.

We know the housing stock here

Most of Washington Township is newer building on generous lots, with colonials and later builds set well back and well apart, and some older ranches mixed in among them. Larger houses mean more square footage for smoke to move through and more ductwork to carry it, so a fire in one wing can leave odor in rooms at the far end. Properties out here also sit further from their neighbors and closer to open land, which makes boarding up and securing a damaged house the first thing worth doing rather than an afterthought.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager/overseer during this. I have nothing but amazing...

Same story as at least one other reviewer. Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling. Austin and Clayton were both amazing to...

Wonderful experience during such a stressful time. They came out immediately, the employees were extremely polite and respectful, and kept me updated every step of the way. They also helped guide me through the insurance claims process which seemed overwhelming at first. I would definitely recommend.

The water line to our ice maker burst and caused a huge mess. Once the plumber discovered where the leak was, he recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation. They responded FAST and had dryers going for the floor in our kitchen and basement. Austin was our Mitigation Project Manager, he and everyone on his...

I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with this company. We had significant flooding after a plumbing repair job went wildly wrong over the weekend. Ryan and Mike did an excellent job, start to finish, in remediating the damage. They were very responsive, professional, and definitely know their...

Our Process

Our fire damage repair process in Washington Township, MI

Step 1. You call and a person answers

Whenever you call, a person answers. The questions are what caught fire, whether the fire service has finished, and whether everyone is out, and then we tell you what to do until we arrive. A crew is dispatched immediately. Washington Township is normally about an hour out.

Step 2. We walk it with you, free

The walkthrough is free and you sign nothing to have it. We go through the whole property with you, including rooms and outbuildings the fire never touched, because smoke will have gone further than the flames did. You will understand the scope of the job before anyone starts on it.

Step 3. We secure the property

A fire leaves a building open, and on the bigger lots out here that can mean open to the weather with no one close by to notice. We close the openings with board, sheet over anything exposed and make sure the areas we will be working in can be entered safely. Where the job calls for it we set containment, so soot and dust stay where they are instead of moving through the rest of the house.

Step 4. We clean the structure and deal with the water

Whatever the fire did, the water used to stop it is now the second problem. It goes into subfloor, drywall and insulation and stays there, damaging the structure and creating conditions for mold. Removing it and drying the building happens in step with the cleaning work. Soot carries acid, and porous material takes the stain further in with every day it is left. Nothing we set up in your house, air mover, dehumidifier or scrubber, goes in without being cleaned and decontaminated first. What cannot be brought back is removed and we explain why before it goes. The structure is our work. We do not take on contents. Anything of yours that needs cleaning is a job for a company built around that, and we can put you in contact.

Step 5. Paperwork, and your carrier

The job is photographed and documented from the first visit through to the last. Our numbers come off a current Xactimate list, which is the list most carriers use, and four to eight hours is a normal day on site for a crew. Invoices are issued three to five business days after the work is complete, with payment due inside thirty days. If a claim is open we document it for your carrier and stay with your adjuster until it is settled. GreenSky financing is there if the timing is awkward.

Our restoration project took several months to complete. If you’re going through an insurance claim, be patient, as the process itself can take time. Dandre, who inspected the damage, prepared the estimate, and worked with our insurance company, was knowledgeable, professional, and very helpful throughout the process. Michelle, our project manager, was always responsive, caring, and worked hard to make sure everything was done right. The restoration work was completed by Leo and Augie, and they were outstanding. Leo replaced our tile, completed the plumbing work, repaired our closet organizer, and paid close attention to every detail. Augie did an excellent job painting. They were respectful, hardworking, and treated our home as if it were their own. Overall, although the process took time, the final result was excellent. Thank you, Dandre, Michelle, Leo, and Augie, for your professionalism, dedication, and quality work!

FAQs

Common questions about fire damage restoration in Washington Township, MI

Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.

How long does it take you to reach Washington Township after a fire?

Our phone is staffed around the clock, holidays included, and about an hour is our normal arrival time out to Washington Township. That holds whether the house is on a subdivision street or at the end of a long private drive. There is no reason to hold off until your adjuster has been in touch. The staining starts as soon as the fire is out, and an empty house gives it all night to work.

Our Washington Township house is large. How far does the smoke actually travel?

Further than most people expect, and further than the flames ever get. Heat drives smoke through open space and along ductwork, and a bigger house gives it more room and more routes to follow. A fire held to one part of the building can leave odor in bedrooms at the far end, because the smoke has soaked into carpet, drywall and insulation on the way through. That is why we walk the whole property rather than the burned section only.

The fire department left a lot of water in our Washington Township home. Is that a separate job?

No, we treat it as part of the same job. A fire is stopped with a great deal of water, and the building keeps most of it rather than shedding it. It sits in subfloor, drywall and insulation, damaging the structure further and setting up the conditions for mold. We extract it and dry the building while we work on the fire damage, so you are not coordinating two companies.

Can you clean the contents of our Washington Township home?

We cannot, and it is better you hear that from us at the start. What we put right is the building itself, from the framing out to the finished wall and floor surfaces. Cleaning, packing and storing personal property is a separate trade with its own equipment and premises. We can point you toward a contents company and work alongside them while we are on site.

Do you deal with our insurance company on a Washington Township fire?

Yes. We put the documentation in front of your carrier, photos, readings and a written scope, and the same paperwork comes to you so you can see every line. Your adjuster and any other trades on the job deal with us instead of going through you. The claim has to go in under your name, so that part is down to you. If the carrier settles for less than the work supports, we will show you where and keep working on it.
