Why Us

Why Clawson homeowners call us first for fire damage cleanup

We are at the property in about an hour

Ring us at any hour of any day and a person answers. There is no service in between taking a message. Clawson is the shortest run on our whole map, closer to our Rochester Hills base than any other city we cover, and that shows on a night when a house needs closing up before the weather turns. An hour is the usual wait, often less, and there is no charge for us to come and look.

The inspection is free and there is nothing to sign

We walk the building with you, tell you what we can see and tell you what we expect sits behind the surfaces. No cost attaches to it and no form comes with it. What we will not do is name a final figure while we are standing there. A fire holds most of its damage out of sight until surfaces come open and get cleaned, and a number offered before that point is somebody guessing in front of you.

We are local, and thirty years into this work

We work out of Rochester Hills, ten minutes up Rochester Road from Clawson. The founders spent their working lives in construction, contracting and cleaning before this company existed. That background is what decides the calls on a fire job. Most of Clawson went up between the late 1940s and the early 1960s, and a good number of those houses have been remodeled or added to since, so we are often reading a mix of original material and newer work in the same room. We can tell you which surfaces will come clean and which have taken it all the way through.

We work with your insurance company and your adjuster

On an open claim we document the work for your carrier and give your adjuster the paperwork they need, and you receive the same detail so nothing is hidden from you. We keep talking to your adjuster and to the other trades working the property, which means you are not the one relaying it all. If you are told a Clawson job has to go to a company on the carrier's list, that is not true. The decision is yours, and when it goes to us we are working for you.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager/overseer during this. I have nothing but amazing...

Same story as at least one other reviewer. Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling. Austin and Clayton were both amazing to...

I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with this company. We had significant flooding after a plumbing repair job went wildly wrong over the weekend. Ryan and Mike did an excellent job, start to finish, in remediating the damage. They were very responsive, professional, and definitely know their...

Our Process

Our fire damage repair process in Clawson, MI

Step 1. Somebody answers the phone

Call at any hour and you get a person, not a recording. We ask what burned, whether the fire department has handed the property back and what is left standing. We tell you what to do until we arrive and what to keep away from. Then we dispatch, and Clawson is one of the quickest addresses on our board to reach.

Step 2. We go through the building with you

The first thing we do at the house is walk it with you. There is no cost and nothing to sign for it. We point out what the fire touched, where the smoke traveled and what we expect to find once things are opened up. No work starts until you know the plan.

Step 3. Board-up and making it safe

Then we secure the building. Boards on the windows and doors, cover over any opening cut for ventilation, and a check that it is safe for people to work inside. Clawson lots are shallow and the houses sit close to each other, so a place left standing open is not only your problem. Closing it on day one keeps weather damage from being added to fire damage.

Step 4. Cleaning the structure and drying what got wet

After that the building comes first. Soot and residue come off what can be saved and the rest is taken out. Belongings are not our trade, so contents go to a company that specializes in them and we can give you a name. There is nearly always water through the house from putting the fire out, so we find it and dry it before mold starts. Every piece of equipment is cleaned and decontaminated before it comes inside, and crews work four to eight hours on a normal day. We price off a current Xactimate list, invoice three to five business days after the work is done, and payment is due in thirty. GreenSky financing is on offer if you need it.

Our restoration project took several months to complete. If you’re going through an insurance claim, be patient, as the process itself can take time. Dandre, who inspected the damage, prepared the estimate, and worked with our insurance company, was knowledgeable, professional, and very helpful throughout the process. Michelle, our project manager, was always responsive, caring, and worked hard to make sure everything was done right. The restoration work was completed by Leo and Augie, and they were outstanding. Leo replaced our tile, completed the plumbing work, repaired our closet organizer, and paid close attention to every detail. Augie did an excellent job painting. They were respectful, hardworking, and treated our home as if it were their own. Overall, although the process took time, the final result was excellent. Thank you, Dandre, Michelle, Leo, and Augie, for your professionalism, dedication, and quality work!

FAQs

Fire damage questions Clawson homeowners put to us

Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.

How soon can you get to a Clawson property after a fire?

Clawson is nearer to us than any other city on our list, so about an hour is the outside figure and it is often less than that. A person answers our phone at every hour of every day of the year. Do call early. Smoke odor works its way into wood, drywall and insulation while the building stands, and those materials keep hold of it long after the air has cleared.

Can you board up a Clawson house the same day?

Yes. Board-up is normally the first physical work on a job. Between the fire and the effort to put it out you tend to be left with forced doors, missing windows and sometimes an opening cut in the roof. We close all of it. On a Clawson street the houses are close together and the lots are shallow, so an open building matters to your neighbors too. Everything else is easier once it is shut.

The fire stayed in the kitchen. Why does the rest of our Clawson ranch smell of smoke?

A postwar ranch is one long single story sitting under one continuous attic, with ductwork tying every room to every other room. Smoke does not respect the walls between them. It travels the length of the house and up into that attic space while the fire is still burning, which is why rooms that never saw a flame end up carrying the smell. Our walkthrough covers the whole house for that reason.

Will you take care of our belongings after a Clawson fire?

No, and we would rather tell you that up front. Our work is the structure of the building. We are not a contents company, so packing out, cleaning and storing what you own is a separate trade with separate equipment, and we refer it to a specialist. Ask and we will give you a name. Photograph everything you can before any of it is moved.

How does billing work on a Clawson fire claim?

Your adjuster gets our documentation and our line by line pricing, and you get the same, so you see exactly what they see. We price from a current Xactimate list, which is what most carriers work from, so the lines are familiar to an adjuster. Invoices go out three to five business days after we finish and payment is due within thirty days. GreenSky financing can spread the cost if that is difficult.
