Asbestos Testing and Abatement in Southeast Michigan
Nationally certified abatement team • Free inspection • Financing available
Think you've found asbestos and need asbestos abatement in Southeast Michigan? Old floor tiles cracked during a remodel, pipe wrap is crumbling in the basement, or a leak soaked a popcorn ceiling. Call us; the inspection is free, and we'll get samples to a lab.
How our asbestos abatement works
First, leave the material alone. Don't sweep, vacuum or break it, keep people and pets out of that area, and call us to talk through what you found and where it is.
We look at the material during a free inspection and take samples, which go to an off-site lab. Testing is paid by the homeowner, though it is typically reimbursed when you are working through an insurance claim. We don't quote the removal until the results are back.
If the lab finds asbestos, we seal off the work area and run HEPA air scrubbing, so fibers don't drift into the rest of the house. Our abatement supervisors and technicians are nationally certified.
The material is then removed inside that sealed area. If the asbestos turned up during a water or fire loss, we fold the abatement into the rest of that job, so the drying or cleanup picks up once the area is clear.
After abatement, a certified third-party organization tests the air, and you get the documentation. Our crew can then rebuild what came out. Financing is available, since asbestos work is often paid by the homeowner.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager during this.

Response came out to our house when we had water issues with our attic and potential mold growth. They dispatched a project manager to came out same day and provided advice regarding insurance, let us know what to expect for the work, and sent a crew out the next day. Everything moved quickly and smoothly...

Why homeowners call us for asbestos abatement
Done wrong, removal can make it worse
The EPA warns that improper removal may actually increase your family's exposure to asbestos fibers. Abatement is about doing it safely, and that is how we plan the job.
You cannot tell asbestos by looking
The EPA notes that you generally cannot tell whether a material contains asbestos just by looking at it, unless it is labeled. Older homes, including apartments, may contain it, and remodeling can disturb it. That is why we test before anything else happens.
Where we look for it in older homes
Vermiculite attic insulation, vinyl floor tiles and their adhesive, textured paint and patching compound, and old pipe and furnace insulation are all on the EPA's list of places asbestos turns up. Water damage is one of the signs of wear the EPA says to look for on that material, because damaged material may release fibers. Those are the places we check first, in houses, apartment buildings and commercial property.
When it has to come out
Material in good condition that nobody will disturb should be left alone, the EPA says. Removal comes in when a remodel will disturb it, or when it is too damaged to repair. If you are not sure which case you are in, that is what the inspection and lab testing are for.

Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling.

Asbestos abatement questions
Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.
What should I do if I already disturbed it?
Stop work and leave the area. Don't sweep, dust or vacuum the debris, since an ordinary vacuum can blow fibers back into the air, and don't track it through the house. Close the room off if you can, change and bag your clothes, and tell us what happened when you call.
Who pays for asbestos testing?
Testing is the homeowner's responsibility to pay. When you're working through an insurance claim, for example after a water or fire loss disturbed the material, your insurer typically reimburses the testing. Abatement coverage depends on your policy and the cause, and financing is available for what isn't covered.
Can you give me a price before testing?
No. The cost depends on what the lab finds, how much material there is and where it sits in the house, so we quote the removal once results are back. The inspection itself is free.
How long does asbestos abatement take?
It depends on the amount and location of the material. Lab results come first, then the removal, then the third-party air test before the area is cleared. Small jobs can be quick, while larger ones in a basement or attic take longer. You get a schedule along with the quote.
How do I know the area is safe afterward?
A certified third-party organization tests the air after the abatement, separate from our crew, so the result isn't our own opinion. You receive the documentation, which is worth keeping for your records and for anyone who buys the house later.
