Same-Day Mold Remediation in Southeast Michigan
IICRC Certified Firm • Free inspection • All Insurance Accepted
Found mold and need mold remediation in Southeast Michigan? A musty basement, black spots spreading on a bathroom ceiling, or fuzz on the back of a closet wall are common signs. Ring us day or night for a free inspection, and expect us at your door in about an hour.
How our mold remediation works
When you call, tell us where you see or smell mold and whether there has been a leak. Until we arrive, don't scrub, scrape or spray it, and turn off the furnace or air conditioning if you think mold is in the ducts.
The free inspection starts with the moisture, not the mold. We use moisture meters to find the leak, the damp wall or the humid space feeding it, because mold removed without fixing the water usually grows back.
Then the moldy material is cleaned or comes out. Hard surfaces such as framing and concrete can often be scrubbed, while drywall, insulation, carpet and ceiling tiles that mold has grown into are usually removed and replaced.
Next we dry the area thoroughly and recheck it, so nothing damp is left behind for mold to start again. If a plumber or another trade needs to fix the source, we coordinate with them before the walls close.
Last, our crew puts back the drywall, trim and paint. We document the work for you and, if a claim is open, send our invoice to you and your insurer. Financing is available, since many policies limit what they pay for mold.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager during this.

Response came out to our house when we had water issues with our attic and potential mold growth. They dispatched a project manager to came out same day and provided advice regarding insurance, let us know what to expect for the work, and sent a crew out the next day. Why homeowners call us for mold remediation
Why we look for the water first
The EPA puts it simply: the key to mold control is moisture control. Most of our work is water damage, so tracking down where moisture comes from is familiar ground. It might be a slow leak, a damp basement wall or a bathroom that never dries out.
Leave the mold alone until we've seen it
Scrubbing or sanding mold dry can send spores into the air you breathe. The EPA also warns against running a heating or cooling system you suspect has mold in it, because it can spread mold through the building. If you suspect yours, tell us when you call.
We say up front what stays and what goes
We can often scrub mold off hard surfaces. Porous materials like carpet and ceiling tiles may have to be thrown away, because mold grows into them and can be impossible to remove completely. You will know which is which before we start.
Painting over mold does not fix it
The EPA warns against painting or caulking over moldy surfaces, because paint applied over mold is likely to peel. The order matters: the water problem fixed, the mold removed, the area dried, and only then the finish work. We put the paint on last, over a clean, dry surface.

Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling.

Mold remediation questions
Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.
Can I clean small spots of mold myself?
Often, yes. The EPA says that if the moldy area is less than about 10 square feet, in most cases you can handle it yourself, scrubbing hard surfaces with detergent and water and drying them fully. Wear gloves and eye protection. Larger areas, mold behind walls, or mold that keeps returning need a professional.
Do I need a mold test first?
Usually not. When mold is visible or you can smell it, the EPA says sampling generally isn't necessary, because the fix is the same: find the moisture, remove the mold and dry the area. Our free inspection focuses on where the water is coming from.
Will the mold come back?
Not if the moisture is gone. Mold needs water to grow, so a fixed leak, a dry wall cavity and normal indoor humidity keep it from returning. Bathrooms without a working exhaust fan and damp basements are where repeat problems show up, so we point those out.
Does insurance pay for mold remediation?
Every claim is different, and coverage is your insurance company's decision. Many policies exclude mold or cap mold coverage at a low limit, though mold that follows a covered water loss is sometimes treated differently. Check your policy early and report the loss promptly. We document what we find, and financing can cover the rest.
Is bleach enough to kill mold?
Bleach isn't the answer. The EPA does not recommend biocides such as chlorine bleach as a routine part of mold cleanup, and on drywall or wood it can lighten the stain while mold stays in the material. Never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners, because the fumes are toxic.
