Why Us

Why Rochester homeowners call us first for fire damage cleanup

You see a crew within about an hour

A person answers our phone at every hour of every day of the year. No recording, no message passed along for the morning. Rochester is minutes from our office, so an hour is a comfortable window and often it is quicker. Speed matters after a fire, because soot keeps drifting through the building for as long as nobody is working on it.

Our inspection costs nothing and commits you to nothing

Looking at the property with you costs nothing, and having us out obliges you to nothing. We will not quote a final figure at the door, either. With a fire loss the full extent stays out of sight until the walls are opened and washed down, because soot moves into cavities and behind finishes. An exact total offered before that has no basis behind it.

Who we talk to, and what stays with you

Your insurer gets the documentation the claim needs, photos, moisture readings and scope notes. You get the same paperwork, so you can read every line yourself. Filing the claim is yours, because the policy is in your name. We talk to your adjuster and to any trade working on the property, so nothing has to be relayed through you. If a claims specialist says you must use a preferred vendor, that is not correct. We work for you, not for the carrier.

A local company from just down the road

We are based just down the road in Rochester Hills, so Rochester is home ground. Our founders spent their working lives in construction, contracting and cleaning before starting the business. That is what lets us look at a burned room and read the structure underneath it, not just the finishes. When something cannot be saved, we say so directly rather than letting you find out later.

We know the older homes in town

Rochester is a small city, under four square miles, and much of its housing sits on tight lots close to downtown. The city carries eight preservation districts covering more than a thousand properties, and the houses in them mostly date from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Original plaster, old woodwork and the deep porous surfaces in those homes hold smoke odor much longer than newer materials do. Houses this close together also mean neighboring buildings need a look after a fire.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager/overseer during this. I have nothing but amazing...

Same story as at least one other reviewer. Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling. Austin and Clayton were both amazing to...

Wonderful experience during such a stressful time. They came out immediately, the employees were extremely polite and respectful, and kept me updated every step of the way. They also helped guide me through the insurance claims process which seemed overwhelming at first. I would definitely recommend.

I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with this company. We had significant flooding after a plumbing repair job went wildly wrong over the weekend. Ryan and Mike did an excellent job, start to finish, in remediating the damage. They were very responsive, professional, and definitely know their...

Our Process

Our fire damage repair process in Rochester, MI

Step 1. A person answers when you call

Call us at any hour and a person answers. We ask what caught fire, whether it is fully out and whether anyone has been allowed back in. Then we tell you what to leave undisturbed until we are there, and we send a crew. Do not wait on your adjuster to call you back before you call us.

Step 2. A free walkthrough before anything else

Everything starts with walking the property together. There is no charge and nothing to sign for the walkthrough itself. We show you where the smoke traveled, what took heat and what we expect once surfaces come open, so you know the scope before work begins. A signed work authorization follows, and then the crew starts.

Step 3. We close the property up

The next job is securing the building and making it safe. We board up windows and doors, cover roof openings and cut services where that is needed. We also mark the areas nobody should be walking into. On a downtown lot with the street close by, getting the property secured quickly matters for the neighbors as much as for you.

Step 4. Structural cleaning, and the water from the fire

With the house secure we work on the building. We clean the structure and remove the materials that took too much heat to keep. The water the fire service left behind while fighting the fire is ours to handle too. In an older Rochester home that water gets into plaster and old framing, and it turns into a mold problem within days. All equipment is cleaned and decontaminated before it comes inside. Expect a crew for four to eight hours per scheduled day. We restore the structure. Contents are not part of our scope, so belongings needing cleaning go to a firm that specializes in that.

Step 5. Paperwork and the claim

We keep photographs and written records from the first walkthrough through to completion. Every rate traces to a current Xactimate list, the same source most carriers use, so nothing on the invoice is unexplained. The invoice goes out three to five business days after the work is done and is payable thirty days from then. Where a claim is open your carrier gets the documentation it needs, and we stay in touch with your adjuster. GreenSky financing is available.

Our restoration project took several months to complete. If you’re going through an insurance claim, be patient, as the process itself can take time. Dandre, who inspected the damage, prepared the estimate, and worked with our insurance company, was knowledgeable, professional, and very helpful throughout the process. Michelle, our project manager, was always responsive, caring, and worked hard to make sure everything was done right. The restoration work was completed by Leo and Augie, and they were outstanding. Leo replaced our tile, completed the plumbing work, repaired our closet organizer, and paid close attention to every detail. Augie did an excellent job painting. They were respectful, hardworking, and treated our home as if it were their own. Overall, although the process took time, the final result was excellent. Thank you, Dandre, Michelle, Leo, and Augie, for your professionalism, dedication, and quality work!

FAQs

Common questions about fire damage restoration in Rochester, MI

Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.

Do you cover Rochester, and how quickly can you get here?

Yes. Our office is in neighboring Rochester Hills, so Rochester addresses are among the closest we serve. A person answers our line at every hour of the year, and about an hour is the usual. The reason to call early is simple. Soot keeps moving and settling after the fire is out, and it starts to stain porous materials the longer it sits on them.

My Rochester home has original plaster and woodwork. What happens to it?

We look at it closely rather than making a quick call on it. Plaster and old woodwork are porous, so they take smoke odor in deeply and hold it longer than newer materials do, and heat drives it further in. Some of it cleans up and some of it does not, and that is not always obvious until the finishes are opened up and cleaned. We will tell you honestly which is which as we go, rather than promising you an outcome on day one.

How long will a crew be at my Rochester property each day?

Usually four to eight hours on a working day, and sometimes longer depending on what the job needs. Crews work a day at a time rather than living at the property. We tell you in advance which days we expect to be there. If access is tight, which it can be on the older streets near downtown, we sort out where trucks and equipment go before the first working day.

Who pays for fire damage restoration in Rochester?

If you have an open claim, we document the loss for your insurance carrier with photos, moisture readings and scope notes. The invoice comes to you, and your carrier sees the same figures. Whether the loss is covered at all is your carrier's decision under your policy, and filing the claim is yours to do. Our charges are time and materials, priced off a current Xactimate list. The invoice is raised three to five business days after completion, payment falls due thirty days later, and GreenSky financing is available if that is difficult.

What should I avoid doing in my Rochester house before you arrive?

Stay out until the fire service confirms the building is safe to enter. Leave the furnace and air conditioning switched off, because running the system pulls soot into the ductwork and pushes it into rooms that are still clean. Do not start wiping walls, ceilings or upholstery, since dry soot smears and grinds into surfaces that could otherwise have been cleaned properly. Photograph what you can see safely and leave the rest for the walkthrough.
