Same-Day Sewage Cleanup in Southeast Michigan
IICRC Certified Firm • Free inspection • All Insurance Accepted
Has sewage backed up into your home, and you need sewage cleanup in Southeast Michigan now? Dirty water around the floor drain, a toilet overflowing downstairs or a sour smell in the basement are the usual signs. Our line is answered around the clock, the inspection is free, and a crew arrives in about an hour.
How our sewage cleanup works
Health comes first. Keep children and pets out of the area, stay off the wet floor, and don't run fans that blow the dirty air around. Stop using sinks, toilets and the washer until the line is cleared, then call us.
At the free inspection we find out where the sewage came from and how far it spread across floors and up the walls. If a plumber still needs to clear the line, we coordinate with them so the backup doesn't start again mid-cleanup.
Next we pump out the sewage and remove what it soaked. Carpet, pad, the lower part of the drywall and wet insulation usually can't be made safe again, so they leave the house. We show you where we cut the walls and why.
Then hard surfaces such as concrete, tile and framing are cleaned, and the structure is dried. We check moisture every day until the readings say it's dry, which usually takes two to four days.
Finally, our crew rebuilds the walls and floors that came out, and we send the invoice and records to you and your insurer, asking the insurer to pay us. Financing is available if your policy has no sewer backup coverage.

We found out we had a water leak from our bathroom tub when we brought our newborn home this past winter. It unfortunately needed to be a complete restoration which my husband and I had never gone through before. We were paired with Michelle as our project manager during this.

Response came out to our house when we had water issues with our attic and potential mold growth. They dispatched a project manager to came out same day and provided advice regarding insurance, let us know what to expect for the work, and sent a crew out the next day. Why homeowners call us for sewage cleanup
Sewage calls for a professional
Sewage is contaminated water. When it causes the damage, the EPA advises calling in a professional who has experience cleaning and fixing buildings damaged by contaminated water. That is the work we do, day or night.
What we take out, and what we save
Carpet, pad and drywall soaked by sewage usually cannot be cleaned well enough to keep. We take out what cannot be saved, clean the hard surfaces that can be, and dry the structure behind them. We are honest with you about which is which.
Your plumber fixes the line, and we clean up after it
A sewage backup is usually two jobs: fixing the line and cleaning up what came out of it. Your plumber handles the line. We handle the cleanup, the drying and the rebuild, and we keep your plumber in the loop as the work goes on.
We trace the smell to its source
After a sewage backup, a smell that hangs on usually means contaminated material is still in place, often under flooring or behind the bottom of a wall. We find the source, remove it and dry the area.

Our ice maker water line started leaking and created a bigger mess than we realized. Our plumber recommended Response Flood & Fire for mitigation, and they were out the very next day drying out our kitchen floor and basement ceiling.

Sewage cleanup questions
Questions we get from our customers' and our answers.
Can I clean up sewage myself?
We don't recommend it. Sewage carries bacteria and viruses that can make people sick, and anything porous it touched has to be removed, not just wiped. If you must go in, wear rubber boots and gloves, keep children and pets out, and wash up well afterward.
What has to be thrown out after a sewage backup?
Carpet, pad, insulation and the bottom of any drywall the sewage reached usually go, along with upholstered furniture and cardboard boxes that sat in it. Concrete, tile, metal and solid framing can usually be cleaned. Photograph everything before it is thrown out, for the claim.
Who fixes the sewer line?
A plumber. A backup usually means a blockage or a failure in the line, and it has to be cleared before cleanup starts, or it can happen again. If the problem is in the public sewer rather than your own line, your city's public works department is the one to call.
Does insurance cover a sewage backup?
Often only if your policy has a sewer or drain backup endorsement, which many standard policies don't include by default. Check your declarations page or ask your agent. We work with all insurance companies, and financing is available if the backup isn't covered.
Can we stay in the house during sewage cleanup?
If the sewage stayed in the basement and the floors you live on are clean, many families stay. Keep the basement door closed and don't run fans that move air from the work area. Young children, older adults and anyone with a weakened immune system may be better off elsewhere until we finish.
